THE OPERA.
The evergreen popularity of " Los Cloches de Comeville " was attested last night by the crowding of the Opera House in every part. It is no reflection upon tho other members of this clever and well-appointed company to say that Mr Kelly's Gaspard gives a character and predominance to this production which would distinguish it from all the othor performances of tho Opera in Auckland. This gentleman has, during tho ourrent season, appeared in rfiles involving the widest contrast, and his versatility and perfectsuccess in sinking his own personality in each impersonation stamps him as an actor of no ordinary merit.' Mr Fordo, who is also introduced to tho audience for tho first timo during the season, approves himself an excellent comedian, whose humour always keeps well above the level of mere buffoonery. The charming soloa, choruses, and music of the opera were admirably rendered. It is only just to mention here, in terms of the highest commendation, the orchestra, which, under the conductorship of Mr W. Harrison, has contributed in so high a degree to the success of the entire season. To-night will terminate the period covered by the original subscription, ani all tickets must bo used. To-morrow, a supplementary season of four nights will be opened with Gilbert and Sullivan's operatic satire, " Patience."
