INTERESTING CASE TO VOLUNTEERS.
[BY TELEGRAPH—OWN CORRESPONDENT.]
Thames, this day.
A singular Volunteer case was heard in the R.M. Court yesterday. F. Millett, a member of the late Hauraki Rifle Volunteers, sued his Captain (Small) for proportion of the value of the Company's asseta, the latter amounting to the total sum of £242. The Captain had Etruck claimant and 80 others from the Company's roll for refusal to bs sworn under the new regulations and for" non-attendance at! parades and had called a meeting of the Company without appointing a place. Fourteen persona remained on the roll, and six of these met at the specified time at an officer s residence, and determined upon a division of the assets among these fourteen. The Magistrate decided that the plaintiff and the others had been illegally removed from the roll, and were therefore still members of the Company. The meeting of members was also illegal, and as there was virtually no decision of the Company as to the disposition of the property, plaintiff could not at present recover, and was therefore nonsuited.
