MINING NEWS.
Colonist. — Tho manager reports reef in south end to be 4 feet thick and showing gold freely. Thero is still 40 feet to drive to get under whero best gold was got on surface. In the north ond tho best gold is got. Tho reef is 2£ feet thick, and shows gold all through it. He hopes to carry gold in the junction up the No. 2 reef. Considerable portion of surface level still to break. Crushing showing great improvement ; 358 ounces amalgam on hand.

New Prince Imperial.—Tho Mariner reef is 3 feet thick in winze below No. 4 level, and looks promising. In the winze on No. 2 lode, below No. 4, at the depth of nearly 70 feet, the reef is composed of quartz and mullock intermixed, but the country is still favourable.
Cambria. —The country on tho footwall of the reef in the winze shows an improvement, being traversed by promising mineral veins tending towards the reel. The manager will break down quaftz to-morrow night. The shaft is 3S feet below the 150 level, and good reefii).||; ground is iv the bottom with undefined quartz disperssd through it. Waiotahi.— The works in progress in this mine comprise stoping on No. 2 and No. 5 lodes and brandies, and driving of a crosscut to open up the leaders near the Imperial City shaft. The crushing is yielding at the u.ual average. Kuranui Hill. —Viall, tributor, banked 20ozs. 4dwts. gold. Magnolia.—Wallace, tributor, loz. Sdwts. gold.
