Calcutta, January 15.—The International Exhibition to date has been visited by :107,000 person?, and the interest taken in the display shows no sign of lessening. Australian Frozen Meat for India. A movement is on foot with a view to the importation of frozen meat to Calcutta, in connection with the projected line of direct steamers between India and Australia, and it i.s very probable that the necessary arrangements will shortly be completed. Another Triumph.-Stranded Steamer Floated. London', January 15,—The steamship Duke of Westminster, which went ashore at tho Isle of Wight on 3rd nut., has been successfully floated and brought safely to port. Spread of tho Soudan Rebellion. Cairo, January IS. —Intelligence is to hand from Kartoum that the tribes inhabiting the districts of the White and Blue Miles in the extreme south of the Soudan have openly declared their allegiance to Xl Mahdi, and are joining his ranks in large numbers daily. Tho Fato of Khartoum Undecided. Cairo, January 14.—1t is. currently reported here that the Egyptian (lovernment have almost decided to retain Khartoum, in consequence of the great difficulties which have arisen in connection with the proposed evacuation of the town by the Egyptian troops. The matter is understood to be still under the consideration of the Cabinet, but it is expected that a decision will shortly be arrived at. Disturbed State of Ireland. LoXlKiif, January 14.—Rival gatherings of l Jarnellites and Orangemen having been 1 announced to be held at Blacklion, County Cavan, Ireland, a proclamation has been iss.ued by the Executive prohibiting the proposed meetings, and a force of a thousand troops is held in readiness with the view of preventing any possible disturbance. London", January 15.—Mr David Kirkalil?^ of the London Testing and Experimenting Works, is sending to the Industrial Museum, Sydney, a collection of specimens exhibiting the qualities of steel iron. An Ally for the Falso Prophet. It is reported that Senguosie, a Tripoli pretender, has joined El Mahdi. Electric Lighting Companies; The Australasian and the Australian Electric Light Companies will probably amalgamate. Archbishop Croko Offered tho Sco of Sydney. LONDOS, January 14.—Tho Vatican has invited Archbishop Croke, of Cashel, to succeed tho late Archbishop Vnughan, of Sydney. The Vatican is now awaiting his consent before the appointment is fully confirmed. The Victorian Four Million Loan. The Victorian four million 4 per cent, loan, with option of inscription, will be opened on the "22nd instant. The minimum is fixed at par, and the final instalment of 90 per cent, will be payable on the 25th of March. Phylloxera in Victoria. Mr Thistleton Dazer considers the specimens of vine-root recently received from Victoria, are clearly infected with phylloxera.

Melbourne Grain Market.
Melbourne, January )s.—The Melbourne manager of the National Mortgage Agency Company of New Zealand (Limited) reports of tho local grain market as follows :— Wheat, per bushel, 4s Id to 4s id. The market is weaker. Malting barley is 4s to 4s fjd. Quotations are nominal. New Zealand oats are in fair demand. Feeding qualities are 3s Id to .'is 3d ; milling ditto, ,'Js 3d to 3d iid ; New Zealand oats, under bond, 2s 4d to "2s 7d.
