Alexander Boswell, late of the Lighter Company, was arrested last evening on a charge of embezzling a cheque, the property of the Lighter Company. The ca.«p was today adjourned for a week, bail being accepted;
Dcnewn, this day. The Otago Amateur Athletic Club started last night with over seventy members. Th'o "Herald" mentions that Andrew Pollock, of Green Island, has received a cablegram stating that he has succeeded to a baronetcy and »;0,000 a-year. Sailed, at noon to-day : Fenstanton, for London. The- big dredge now lifts 1,400 tons daily off the Bar, and soundings there this week give 17 to 22 feet at dead low water. The results are considered eminently .satisfactory.
