PONSONBY REGATTA.
Tub events postponed from Easter Monday took place on Saturday evening, resulting as follows :—
Amateur £ca__,L«Bß.—Prize; " New Zealand Herald" Silver Cup (presented by Messrs Wilsons and Horton), valnod at £9 10s; 2ni prize. Tankard (presented by Capt. Ancorson) valued at £2 10s. Untrios.: T. Farquhar, pink, Ponsonby Ho wing Club; Alfred H. Jones, pink, bleok orosp, Ponsonby Rowing Club: 0. Hewson, bluo. white ball; S. Bailey, blue. North Shoie Bowlrg (tub; VV. tfatQubar, plufc and blaok dlagona', Tho courso was fixed in a straight line, from the westward of Queen-street Wharf to Shelly Beach, Pousouby, where a flag, boat was anchored, All those who entered came to tho starting post, but all wero not punotual, and consequently it was after 3 o'olock before tho boats were aent off, The etart was a good one, but the competitors speedily got out of line, T. Farquhar. E. Bayley, and A. Jones, a. suming a position well iv advance of the others before 100 yds had been covered Farquhar pulled very steadily, but Bailey occasionally splashed, ond appeared to be putting forth greater effort. Ho succeeded in passing T, Farquhar off Freeman's Bay, and thence until about 200 yards from the winning post the two changed places several times. The water was very lumpy, and proved fatal to Bailey's chance of winning, for his boat suddenly capsized, and he was Eicked up by a passing yacht. At this time c was about even with T. Entries—Ponsonby Rowing Club, Porn Loaf, pink and blaok j North Shore Rowing Club, Dlue; Ponsonby Rowing Club, Kutaea, red. ' The race was pulled over the same course as the former, t'nly two crews—the Fern : leaf and North Shore—competed. The Ponsonby men got away from their opponents shortly after starting, and were never caught. The Fernleaf's crew was as follows : -Watson, stroke; J. Garrott, 3; Lloyd, 2; Scott, bow; "A. Model Yaoht Race. — There were a large number of competi'ip, and the race proved an interesting one, resulting in it win for Ihe Madge, owned by C. Petley; Mr Keesing's model boing second and Mr Clare's third.
