. In tließ.M. Court to-day, McGuirc sued fcohen, oil the totalisator, for £3 dividend on a.raco at the last Jockey Club meeting, whicb plaintiff neglected to apply for till next daf. Payment was refused on several grounds, the principal of which Deing that the ticket was not pres«nted immediately after tho race. Counsel for the defendant pleaded that the Jockey Ciub should have been sued. Judgment Was given for defendant for cost?, on apoint of law that Coheu was^miplnyed by the Jockey Club, and therefore not liable. Cohen, bad the outside totalisator. '

Mr G. Wi Lee, an old colonist, and the dwnor of Emir Bey and other racehorses, died suddenly at Oxford yesterday. Mr J, B. Stout, of Lyttelton, one of the Canterbury Pilgrims, died yesterday. At the K.M. <^outt to-day, a woman named Elizabeth Johnstene was committed for trial for robbing George Mitchell of £11 in a house of ill fame on March 30th.
INVBRCARGILL. this day.
A cowshed and stables on tho farm of BJ Andrews, near Winton, was burnt down this morning. The horse, harncs?, and a quantity of grain was destroyed. It is estimated that the total loss is over £200. There is no insurance.
