A SCHOONER ASHORE AT NAPIER.
(BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONBENT,) iNAPIER, this day. The three-masted schooner Johann Adolph, which completed raking in her carjjo of wool, tallow, and preserved meats yesterday, on behalf of tho New Zealand Shipping Company, was being taken ont into the roadstead this morning, preparatory to sailing for London, when she took the gronad on tho boulder hank inside the eastern pierhead, and stranded, She started out on the last of nbe flood tide under tow of the ss. Sir Donald, but before she could be headed out fairly into the tide-way, sho bilged slightly on Hie bank just outside the cattle wharf. This, however, only necessitated a slight delay, during which time the tide had commenced to eh'?, and carried the Sir Donald out ahead or her, so that when clear of the bank sho was unable to get her enough out into the stream, and the schooner kept in the shallow water along the pior, eventually taking the ground on the inside tailend of the boulder bank, on the lee side of the eastern pier head, almos'. opposite the lighthouse, when the ebb tide making held her f art. As there was a considerable range on the bar this morning which caused the schooner to surge about a good deal, lines wore run out to the. breastwork to steady her as much as possible. The s.s. Sir Donald went to her assistance again about noon when tho tide tide commenced to make, and at 12.15 got her clear and towed her into the roadstead. Up to the time 1 loft tho Spit, the extent of her damage had not beep ascertained, although she was making little or no water. It la feared that her copper and planking would be conslderably injured, as the bank on which she stranded is composed of large boulders and shingle, some of the former being very raggod and sharp. It is, however, thought probable that she will havo to go to either Wellington or Lytileton for overhaul.
