BY CHEVAL.)
The course proper was again thrown open this morning, but most of the work was dino on the plough. Amongst the horses present were Turquoise, Tim Whiffler, Welcome Jack, Merlin, Lone Hand, Ngata, Poet, Tiicolrin, Minerva, Mount, >t, Swithin, aud Harkaway. Very geuer-i reg.ct was expressed at the non-appearance of Rowi and Vottex. The most interesting event of tbe morning was the nppeuance of Welcome Jack, stripped for the first time. Ho galloped the Cup distance ■in good style Tim Whiffl-r and Merlin also went twice round the c»ursc, running very strongly. The Poet, Minetva, Ngata, Mount, 'iricotrin, and St. Swithin, did useful work, while Haikaway was schooled over the hurdles. Turquoise worked on tbe plough, and Lone Hand did a gallop three times round the course. Moonstone has been scratched for all engagements at the forthcoming meeting. Minerva, on account of tho cxcollcnt accounts of her going, was freely backed at hundreds to six straight out, and at hundreds to two in the double with anything.
