A Havabb AssAc&T.-Patrlok Bedford was Charged with violently assaulting Margaret Carroll, a woman with whom hp cohabited, on the 17th Instunt.—Mr Bladna appeared tar the prisoner.—Mr Pardy said tb.9 weman had been most brutally used by the prlsoner.who knocked hor about and kloked her In a moat violent manner. Tho prisoner bad bqen living on the earnings of the woman. — Prisoner denied this, and said he earned his own living bs a labourer.-Mr Blades said Mr Pardy had in his possession a letter withdrawing the charge from the woman Oarroll.— Mr Vardy said he had a letter, but it was written bj the prisoner, with intent to deceive. —Prisoner: I wrote It at the dictation and expressed dealro ot Maggie.—Mr Pardy said as the woman was unable to aopear in evidence through the brutal treatment sue bad received at tho hands of Bedford, the police had takon up the case, aad he would ask for a remand.— The cage was remanded foe a- week, and, ball being relusod, the prisoner waß locked up.
