Tho Council had written to the Olty making several queries regarding the ooac, oto., of a supply from the Western Sprlngo. lhe City Counoll replied— (1) They wonld bo prepared to lay an 8-inoh mrln to oonneot with tho larger main in Byraondu-stroot; (2) they would not agree to abate the rate of charge already stated (le per loop galloni.), irreapeotlve of toe purpose for which the water la used; and (S) to ensure a pure supply for Parnell the mains in Mpohanlcs' Bay, on the olty side of tho meter, will be blown off aa often as required by the olty officials.—The other correspondence, including the reports of Messrs Boyjan and Imndon, and a memo from the Clty'Waterworks engineer (Mr w, Krrlngton), waa also before the meeting Ihe report of the oommittee appointed to interview the City Counoll was aso re»d.— The Mayor Bald, having all the data before thorn, the Council could now oonsidor whether or not It was desirable to derive their supply from the city. He briefly rationed the history of the negotiations with the City Counoll —In answer to Cr MoKerzle, the Mayor Slid It wus clearly understood by tho Oltj Counoll that they should extend the eißht Inch main from Mymonds-street.—Cr follard said he believed that the adoption of tho city supply would give general satisfaction to the ratepayers. The City Council had met them very falrly.-On the motion of the Mayor, seoonded by Cr Pollard, the report of the committee waa reoelved. He balievod it could not bs done tor less thin 6 per oont.-Cr AlcKoozie then moved, "That the rate of interest for dtainage and water supply loan? be fixed at 6 per cent."— Cr Herbert seconded - Carried unanimously.— The Finanoa Committee were authorised to prepare a form of debenture and obtain dasigns. The debentures for the loans were fixed as follows:—Water loan. 30 debontures of £100. and 60 of £50; drainage, 40 of £iOO, and 80 ot

£50.—Cr Pollard moved.
