ALLEGED WRONGFUL CONFINEMENT in an ASYLUM.
(BY TELEGRAPH,— OWN CORRESPONDENT.)
DUNEDIN, this day.
The " Star," referring to Mr Bradshaw's report of two pertons whom ho declares to have b«en quite sane having been detained in Dunedin Asylum as lunatics, Bays one of the city members ought to enquire bow these persons came to be committed, I have reason for saying that, in one case, Mr Bradshaw ia mistaken. The person alluded to was at one time in the Invercargill Bank. The manager has since left, for Invercargill. His case was brought under notice by the late Judge Chapman, who, after full investigation, declined to order his release Tho ",otar" reporter has investigated two cases mentioned in Mr Bradshaw's report. A. T. has a croze—it it electricity—and his insanity was brought about by drink, and the authorities frequently offered to hand him over to the care of nny of his friends, as he was quite hnrruless, but none would accept the oharge. B. W. has twico been discharged from an Asylum and re-committed. He is now gradually becoming an imbecile. His brain has softened. He fancies others aro scheming to do him an injury.
