"I should biive no objection to my ■wife's reigning," said an affectionate hnsband, "if it were not for the fact that when fthe reigns she is apt to storm also." To the Editor: Sir,—ln the Stak of the 9th insi appears a letter signed "Lim Yot" re hawkers' licenses. This is only one out of many cases that could be brought forward. Last February, a friend of mine visited Mahnrangi with goods for sale (he having taken a license out in Aucktend for hawking), and offered his goods at Warkworth for sale. He was askedl for £4 license fee for Rodney county. Then he proceeded to Pahi, &c. Memiia««n asked for £5 license fee, and told if he went into Waipu another fee would have to be paid to Wnngarei county. Now, sir, why cannot a hawker's license be obtained in Auckland, and allowed to serve anywhere in New Zealand. Bach couuty Council appears at present to put on any amount they thipk fit; and taking the North of Auckland, each county charges a fee of £5 yearly. £30 a year ia a monstrous sum for a person to pay for the privilege of selling a few goods here and there.—Yours, -&C, KAIPARIAN.
