MINEKS' STRIKE,
NEWCASTLE, Dec. 9,
The miners are now agitating for higher ratea ol wages, in view of rise in the price of coal, which it is believed will take place early in 1882.
ENGLISH CRICKET MATCH. SYDNEY, December 9. The cricket match between the English team and eleven of New South Wales was commenced here to-day. The weather was fine and the attendance good, 'lhe wicket was dead. The English went first to the wiokets, and whon the stamps were drawn for the day had put together 235 runs for the loss of only five wickets. Barlow was ■ not out for 71; Sslby was canght and bowled for 56 ; Ulyett was bowled for 47. DEPARTURE OF SIR H. PAKKES, SYDNEY, Dec. 9. ; In view of the intended early departure of the Premier, Sir Henry Parkes, on a visit to England, an iufluential meeting was held to-day to make arrangements for presenting him with a testimonial.
