It will also offer great facilities for storing buttor, game, and other perishable goods; and enable the North of New Zealand to compete successfully with any other part of the Colonies In the manufacture of bacon, curing hams, and production of preserved meats. Tannery and Fellmonoery.—The latter has been carried on by Messrs Fisher & Co. during tbo last twelve months, and with a view ot extending the business to tanning and woolscouring, a dam was ereoted, capable of holding half-a-mlllion gallons of water, and a il-lnoh pipe laid a distance of 1,300 feet, to the first building erected on the site; and Mr Alokin, C.K,, has surveyed and made plans for a dam to hold three million gallons of water. Arrangements have been made with the Government to have a station on the site of the works, thus enabling the Company to carry on a large shipping and carrying business, with even facility and despatch. It Is also imposed to utilise all refuse in the manufacture of a superior manure, These works have bo»n in opermio* six months, and the article produced has given the greatest satisfaction. Mr WlllUm Aitken and a Committee, sweated from the Provisional Directors, have inspected all the freehold properties ot Messrs Fisher and Co., and have arranged the valuations on a most satisfactory basis. The live stock, carts, and general stock-in-Trado will be valued by Mr Jos. Wallace and Mr Hobt Hall, and the business taken ovor on the Ist day Of January, 1832. Messrs irisher and Co.aocept 25,000 paid-up shares in the company, In full payment for all the freehold properties, furniture. &o. It is proposed that Mr Fisber should act as Managing Director of the meat-purveying department, and Mr Banks of the tannery and fcllmongery, &o.
