WAITEMATA COUNTY COUNCIL.

Thb annual meeting of the Waitomata County Council was held tbU morning, In the office, Khortlandßtroe t. Thoro were present:—Me J. W. Waller (late chairman), and Mews Biohard Monk and Robert Sinclair (Arariruu Kidiun), O. Mays and R. Mackuy (Takajmna KidiDß), W. N. Cant well (Waitamlti Riding), John Smyth (Waitakerel Hiding), Charles Hardy (Welti Riding), and George Lang (Manukau Riding). Thk Latk Chairman's Addhkhs.—Mr Waller, in opening the proceedings, Bald that he appeared there that day for the last time after a three years' service. He had, before retiring, to offer a few explanatory remarks. The cash account, although shewing verj little to the credit of the Council, was still in a better posteitlon than had been anticipated, and would compare very favourably with tho cash accounts of similar bodies. The Connoll had bees maintained and kept together by the Government grant, without which it oould not have satisfied one hundredth part of the claims made upon it.. The gentleman resumed his seat after paying a meed of praise to the secretary tor hla zealous attention to duty.—After answering gome questions put by Ors Laing and Hardy, the Chairman called, upon the secretary to read the minutes. — These having been read and confirmed, the new Chairman (Mr Sinclair) proposed, and Cr Cantwell seconded, that Mr Oliver Mays should be elected chairman for the ensuing year.— Mr Waller then withdrew, and Cr Mays assumed the chair. Tho latter gentleman then briefly returned thanks for the honour conferred upon him. He alluded to the satisfactory way in whloh the late Chairman had discharged his duty, and promised to do hiß b*Bt to give equal uatisfaotion, , . Finance CoMMrrmt.-The Chairman and Messrs J Smyth and K. Maokay were appointed a finance committee for the ensuing year. Statement of accounts.-The Secretary presented a statement of assets and liabilities, which may be summarised as follows :-AtseU: Estimated revenue from Uoenses, £210; ditto from rates. £100; ditto from don tax, £10; sundries, £101 l'Jj 6d. Total, £168.198 fid. Liabilities: completed and authored works, £177 Ids: accounts due, £53 68 lOd; balances due Road Boards, £'89 is 6d; bank overdraft, £26 18s; sundries, £38 17s 6d: total, £155 15s Kid.-Tho Chairman eald that the Council had really nothing to spend until Juno next. It all ttie monies due were paid they would only have after paying liabilities £11, which would be absorbed by the salaries. Practically the next half-year's revenue had been hypothecated by the late Council. He thought if the Council met onoe a quarter until June It wonld be often enough.— Cra Monk, Sinclair, and Latnf? having also spoken, it was proposed and agreed to that the Finance Committee I should convene the next meeting of the Council whenever it deemed it neceesary. Members' Kxpknsks.—Tho question of payment of members' travelling expenses was deferred. It was also resolved to make application for the renewal of the overdraft of £3)0 for the half-year ending March, 1882. KNDOWMENTS.-Cr Sinclair moved, Cr Monk seconded, and it was agreed to, "Tret the Financo Committee be directed to bring up a report as to the area asd location of the waste lands eituatcd in the county with the view 01 securing an endowment for the county. Noticks of Motion.—Cr Hardy gave the following notices of motion:—(1) " That tbe appointment of Mr Jeffd as Poundkeeper at Dairy Flat, be annulled." (2) "That the said pound, and the land on which it is erected, be conveyed to the Pufeeatua Road Board, as the proper authorities to hold the same. Accounts.—After passing accounts to the full amount,or rather more than the proposed over-' draft, the Council adjouraec!.
