The Object of this Association is tho establlsment of a Co-operative Storo, suitable to the requirements of the timos. The Promoters having watched the working of similar institutions in the Old, Country, believe that tho lirae has now arrived for successfully floating a Company in New Zealand for the supply of Goods and Merchandise of all descriptions. Tho Company will alao act as Agents or otherwise for the sale of Produce of all kinds, and thereby assist the settlers in disposing ot their commodities, and also for all other residents in country places who live too far away to make frequent visits to town. The Company being in a position to buy largely, and for cash, will bo able to guarantee tho quality of tho goods sent out, and at fair and reasonblo prices. Facilities will also bo given to promote tho sale of Local Manufacturers whenever it can ba done in the interests of the Shareholders. It is believed that too ofton local industries suffer from tho want of a proper channel to introduce their Goods, and not that tho articles manufactured are inferior or dearer than tho3e imported. To meet these requirements, and to present to all classes of the community a safe and profitable investment for capital, are tho objects sought in the formation of this Association. Theoperation of the Company will conducted by thoroughly practical business men, every detail will be carefully examined and treated economically ; profits after paying the dividends to the Bhnreaolders, will bo divided among the Shareholders and Ticket-holders; the accounts Will bo audited quarterly by a public accountant, to be chosen by the Shareholders and Directors. Shareholders will be entitled to all the advantages afforded, at the stores, to a Bhare in tho profits as hereinafter specified, and will have tho power of nominating Ticket-holdors— not exceeding four — each Ticket-holder to pay two shillings and sixpence annually, or ten shillings for five years, and Life Members a payment of twenty Bhillings, for tho privilege of dealing at the dep6ts of tho Association and of sharing in tho profits, 'the Directors reserve tho power to limit the number of Ticketholders from time to time. Every Shareholder and Ticket-holder, to save tho trouble and expense of sending money occasionally through the post, will be able to open a deposit order at tlie stores, and purchases made from time to time will bo dobited thereto. The balance at credit can bo withdrawn in cash at any time. These accounts w.ll not bear interest. Monoy will also be received on deposit in sums ot not less ihan £1. on which interest will be allowed at the rate of C per cent, per annum on sums that have remained on deposit one calendar month. From the net profits 10 per cent, interest will bo paid as a first charge on the paid-up share capital, and the balance will bo divided as follows :— One-fourth to the fot mation of a reserve f and. One-half as a dividend to the Shareholders. A bonus, equal to the remaining one-fourth, will bo paid "pro rata" to the Ticketholders who shall havo purchased, during tho year, goods to the extent of „25, and upwards, from the Association. When the reserve fund shall have reached the sum of £10,000. all further addition therhto will cease, and the said one-fourth of the balance of tho nett profits will be applied to ipcreasing the dividend to »he Shareholders, and the bonus to the Tioket-holders, Companies with slmila- objects in view in England havo, under good management, attained the mo3t complete success. According to published reports, a Supply Association, whose business was commenced in tbe early part of 1872, made returns the first year of £130,000, second year £280,000, and third year £130,000, and it is a well-established fact that such Societies in the Old Country, when managed properly, are classed among the mos useful as well as the most profitable undertakings of the present times. Estimated Return for First Year. £ad „ a d Say 1000 customers, each laying out, per week, on an average, 20s (some would buy much more and some less than that amount 1000 0 0 Say prolit on £1000 at 10 per cent. .. 100 0 0 Deduot weekly expenses (but a. muchlargu business might bo done withouut increasing this staff), say 10 0 0 Shewing probable net profit per week_ .. ~ .. £00 0 0 But it may reasonably be expected tht a much larger weekly return would soon be the result when once tho CompaDy got into full working ordor. As will bo Been by taking the figures of tho last census in 1878, there were then 16,318 inhabited houses in the Provincial District of Auckland; if, therefore, the Company obtained, say, only a fourth part of these, reckonin-r one family to one house, that would produce 1079 customers, which number, calculated in the same proportion as above, would produce a gross profit of £107 weekly, instead of £100. And even if these results are not obtained at first, yet tho estimate shows a wide field for the operations ot the Company being worked with profit at its commencement, and . with every reasonable prospect of most satisfactory results when in full operation. Moreover, tho abovo calculation does not take into account the population in vessels on tho night of the census being taken in the Provincial District of Auckland, which was thou 3067, neither does it takeiinto account the nativo population, nor tho population in other Provinces in Now Zealand, amounting, in addition, to tho number or 331,751, and from whom tho Company may fairly expect occasional orders. The whole European population was In IS"S, 111,112-1083 the number in Auckland district, 82,661—331, 761.* With such prospects it will readily be seen from the above data that the Shareholders in such a Company must realise largo profits, and, j in addition, be able to get their supplies at tho ! lowest possible rates, in fact every Shareholder will bo his own Importer, and benefit accordingly. . Application of Shares, or for further information, can be made to the broker, Mr a. Saundors, Insurance Buildings, or to tho Secretary, at the temporary office of the Association, Stiohbury's Buildings, Queen-street, Anokland. The Sharo List will close for allotment at an early date. , ■ . "Note.—The increase in the population, as shown by the recent census, in tho Provincial District of Auckland is 12,330.
