G.u-ton Blanchet, rcpresi-ntintc Messrs Convreux and Horsent contractors for tho building of the canal, leaves to day for New York. Mr Blanchethas pushed his surveys and examination of the proposed routo for tho canal with great vigour and earnoßtnoeß for tho lust two months. He has at present seventeen brigades in the field, and has eecured repdrts covering tho entire ground, wnieh aro of a most important character, l)ata necured make it certain tnat tho OHtimites Hlroady mad.) by his house are within reasonable limits. It would appear that distanco can he saved and easier cutting peoured by changing the terminal points on botii sides of tho Isthmus. The mouth of the Mmdi River is now approved as tho ontrance on the Atlantic and tho Hio Grande ontranco on this side will, it is said, bo abandoned for ttie small imy on the north cido of the city, where tho Panama Kailroad wharf is situated. On the Atlantic side a saving in distance of somo eeven kilometres is elt'ected by the change proposed The Geological Bureau reports a greater nnd more uniform depth of earth alon« tho entire lino than was supposed to exist, or than has been discovered in previous Burvoys Tho remit of the surveys so far ha'> been very satisfactory. Houses havo arrived from Now Orleans and Now York, and will be erected at different points on tho line for tho use of workmen, to servo aa hospitals, etc.
