MINING NEWS.
The following reports havo been rocoived from the mine managers to-day :—
Kuiianui Hill United. — Belfast section : —ln these stopes, the lode during last week has greatly improved and shows gold frequently. We have from here ten pounds of fair specimens, and tho whole thing looks very promising for a rich patch, Tho reof is from 2J to 3J feet wide. Junelion of all Nations:—Tho surface veins remain as previously roported during tho la?t five months. As we work ont one small stringer wo got another, and seem likely to keep on at the same rato for some months. Poverty ;— Wo ore driving in the bottom of Ko. 1 winze, to find tho Dukes' loader. Dukes is still further ahead. Teutonic : In this division wo see no gold lately, but tho reef looks large. Kindly Battery : During tho week very littlo Company's quartz has boon crushed. We ham 5840z5. amalgam on hand, and a great quantity of good blankettings to put throngh from which I expect lOOozs. moro. The stamps hare been busy on tributers' parcels, as under:—Martin, lOozs. lldwts. ; Jones, 6oz«. sdwts. ; Lc Manguais, 14ozs, 13dwts. ; Jury, 29ozs. lSdwts. ; and other ots not comple ted.—l. W. Waiotahi G.M.C.-No. 3 Level: Tho dirt coming fo hand from tho stopes on No. 4 and 5 and branch leaders is enwhing very small just now. I met with a few pounds of good picked stone last week from No. 5 stopc. I met with a small loader in the hanging wall of No. 5 stopo ; it shows a little gold, so I havo opened up a small block on it. No, 2 level: The small leader I have been driving on in No. 1 drive east is payable, but the air being light 1 have started driviug on it north, which, by its course, should break through into No. I footwall drive in No, 3 leader—either will do to give ventilation in this part of the mine. I expect the return will be an improvement ou tho last. —J. S. Smith.
. Old Golden Calf.—The following telegram, from Grahamstown, was received to-day by Mr P. J. Mac Donald, Manager:
— " Picked up lode on other side of slide at number two level. Reef looking promising. —Thomas H. Crawford.
