SULPHUR PROJECTS,
A celebrated chemist of Melbourno has been sent over by a Melbourne capitalist to inspect the sulphur at White Island, and report whether it will be advisable to erect a chemical manufactory establishment for the preparation of sulphuric acid and chemical manure.
Mr Mclvor ha. r.lun.d, and is favourably impressed with the 'cources of the Island. He considc.d tut n very important industry -in bo maintained. Wilson's Sulphur Works, at Tauranga, will be taken over and improved, QUARTZ AT KAIMAI. New quartz has been found at Kaimai, about 28 miles from Tauranga.

Fowler has been committed for trial for stealing £30. The second charge of stealing £5 was dismissed.
THE MARBLE COMPANY
The Land Board on the casting vote of the Chief Commissioner, granted the Castwcll Sound Marble Company, seven years' license, for a quarry of over32o acres, The Company applied for an area by means of four applications, put iv by four shareholders, each for 80 acres, the maximum allowed to be leased to one individual by the Laud Act, and was, ou the ground that they did not consider it legul to grant more than 80 acres to the Company, that these members of tho Board recorded dissent from the dcci.ion.
