CLYDE SHIPBUILDERS AND THE RUSSIAN GOVERNMENT.
The well-known firm of shipbuilders, Messrs John Elder and Company, of _ Glasgow; have, just come in for a slice of good luck. They hare recently finished the Czar's new yacht, the "Livadia," which is fitted up in the most Insurious style, and owing to the high rate of speed attained by it during her official trjals.the Czar, in addition to the contract price, has very generously presented the builders with a cheque for £40,000. Bnt that is > not all, the Russian Ministry of Marine had bees, so well pleased with the result produced by the engines of the " Lividia that they have concluded a contract with Messrs. John Elder and Company, for the supply of new engines for their largest armour-clad, the ''Peter the Great." These engines, which are to be of 7,000 indicated horsepower, are to replace those supplied from Baird's Works, St. Petersburg. We are not surprised that a good many shipbuilders on the Clyde should envy the Messrs Elder on this piece of good luck.
