Gold Discovered on Stewart's Island.
(From Our Own Correspondent.)
BLUFF, this day. Cutters which have arrived from Stewart's Island this morning report the discovery of gold-bearing quartz in a reef running from Port William to Peterson's Inlet. The specimens show gold clearly. Several cutters have been chartered specially to convey residents to Riverton yesterday to obtain miners' rights. Tho prospectors quietly obtained a grant of land a week ago, and have pegged out most of the supposed Hue ot reef.
The saw-mill hands are leaving work in consequence.
