The "Canterbury Press" is wrath with Mr Saundcrs, M.H.R., for hinting in his speech to his constituents at the possibility ot repudiation of the Colonial Debt. The Proporty Tax Commissioner in tho Auckland District has received 8000 schedules under the old Act, and 5000 under the amended Act.
Mr Macdonald has formerly taken over the Kamo railway. Wliangarci and Tauranga aro closed as ports of entry. G. B. Davy has been appointed R.M. at Wellington.
Mr C. C. Boyca has been appointed a coronor.
Bub-Lieut. S. Barrlball is promoted to the rank of liout. iv the Waiuku cavalry.
The Bishop of Duncdin is trying to secure a respite for the condemned murderer Ah Lee.
Sir Dillon Bell, the new Agent-General, goes home in December. The New Zealand urand Steeple Chase Club will hold its meeting at Timaru, on May 6th, 1881. Alexander Arnan has been fined £100 at Duncdin for illicit distillation. Philip McCarthy for aiding aud abetting has been released on bail.
Several newspapers aro urging the Government to establish a parcel post between New Zealand and tbr> United Kingdom.
