THE WAIMATE PLAINS,
WELLINGTON, this day. Mr Thompson, Government interpreter, has taken on himself to protest vehemently against the sale by the Government of the Waimatc Plains, and has written a strongly worded letter to Mr Bryce, condemning the action of the Government, as this tends to the subversion of discipline at the froDt. Mr Thompson's services have been dispensed with. His wife is said to be interested in the Waimate Plains.
Mr Hall, Premier, returned by tho coach last nielli from a tour in Wairarapa.
THE MURDERER. The complete papers regarding tho caso of Joe, tho murderer, are now received by the Government from Auckland, and his fate will probably be settled at the Executive Council meeting, to-morrow. Mr Bryco is expected back to-night from tho West Coast.
To-day's telegrams roportthat tho Maoris, having been warned yesterday, came down to-day unusually early, viz., G a.m., but only weut throueh the usual tom-toolery.
