MhkWell General Manager for hotH Islands, and Hannay AssKtaut Manufe'er. i Maxwell is Blackett's second in commaud, and Hannay is tho - District Manager at Oamaru. He acted for Conycrs when the latter was laid up by hi* accident. Both aro reported to be efficient men.. Conycrs aud Lawson retire on a compensation allowance. Tho Commissioners' staffs aud offices will bo dono away with entirely, so that there will bo a material saving of expense, especially as Maxwell aud Hannay aro to have considerably smaller salaries than Convers aud Lawson. It was reported to-day that similar changes are to be made regarding the Engiueor-in-Chief, and that Mr Blnckott retires, but I have authority to state that this is without foundation, uo such change being in contemplation.
