ME MACDdNALD AT GtlSßOflftE,
GISBORNE, this day. Mr Allan McDonald, m.H.R, uu= dressed his constituents on Friday night iv the Masonic ilall. Tile Mayor presided. Mr McDonald reviewed the work of tho session at considerable length. He regretted the Government had dropped all the native measures. He spoke in high terms of praise of His Honor Judge Fiuton for the pains he had taken, and the assiduity he had shown in endeavouring to havo really good measuies passed for dealing with native land. Had Judgo Fenton's views been carried out, Mr MacDonald had no doubt but in a little while all tho land trouble and disputes along the East Coast would have ceased. He scvorcly condemned tho Laud Sales Bill as introduced, aud described the policy of the Government as tho worst yet enunciated. On the education question he was opposed to the preSout extravagant outlay incurred by the Country. Ho believed that persons who were able to pay for tho education of their children should bo compelled to do do. Ho would support, an Incomo aud Property Tax, was against taxing local industries,condemned the Government, especially tho Atiorncy-Generul, Mr Whitaker, for tho proposed Representation Bill, and bolioved. the question of redistribution of scats would have to be decided by a Commission appointed for the purpose. The financial proposals of Major Atkinson were tho best that could possibly be brought forward, as it was well known that local subsidies wore to be abolished. After referring in ilattcring terms to the Premior and ono or two other members of the Government, aud dwelling ou local matters for a while, atunanimous vote of confidence was passed iv Mr McDonald us a representative for East' Coast.
