CONCERT AT THE INDUSTRIAL HOME.
A vrby pleasing concert was given last evening in the school-room of the Industrial Home in aid of the fund for the payment of gas and extras. Mr David Goldie, who was partly instrumental in getting up the concert, so ably conducted by Mr John Kyan, was unable to be present. Hence the next best man, Mr.Stickley, was voted to the chair. Tho* programme- was of a varied and pleasing character, and opened with a hymn by the scholars. A solo was then given on tho harp by Master Haudley, which was applauded. Mr Ryan sang ".Nil Desperandum " in his energetic aud acceptable style. Misses Matthews and Macdonald followed with tho exquisite duet "The Cousins," well rendered, Miss Barton playing the accompanyment. A number of scholar!) then came to the front and gave "The Fairies," a chorus. Miss Annie Andersen was particularly Bweet in " Won't you Buy my Pretty Flowers." The scholars followed with " Rule Britannia," in full and effective force. Tho following songs and solos were given in order : —Duet " Army and Wavy," by Messrs Francis and Ryan. "The Bridgo," Miss Macdonald. "The Bells of St. Michael's Tower," by the scholars, Mias Barton acting as accompanist. Miss Sharp " Once Again," accompanying herself on the pianoforte with much skilL Mr Eyan " The Owl." Maifier Hanley, a solo on the harp. Miss Matthews " .Remember or Forget." Mr Ramsay "O, My Country," which was followed by the song (with phorns), " Still I Love Theo," by Mr Francis. Mr Ryan " I'm a Friar." " Red Cross Knight," by the scholars (Miss Barton as accompanist). Mr Ramsay " Tho Fourleafed Shamrock." The National Anthem successfully closed tho musical programme. Mr Stickley in a neat speech thanked the ladies and gentlemen most heartily, mentioning the nifties of. Mr Ryan and tho ladies who had contributed so generously to the amusement of the evening, and a vote of thanks was carried by acclamation at the suggestion of Mr Stickley. Ho inlorraed the friends the Homo Band of Hope meeting would be held to-night, to which the friends of the Institution wero cordially invited. He had much pleasure in making the gratifying announcement that tho Rev. J. Beckenhani, of Nelson, had kindly promised to give a lecture in their school-room on Saturday evening at 7 o'clock on "His travels and Experiences among the Blacks of Australia/!
