THE HOSPITAL SCANDAL.
(To ihe Editor).
Sir, —The Press of Auckland is alive! Even the over-cautious "Herald"—cautious often, at the wrong time and placeis at last committed to a righteous course re the Industrial Home; and with honour, justice, truth, as bulwarks, Auckland will be happy, rich, and strong if her men arc equally alive to their duty. Sir, it is well kuown that through the corrupting influence of toadying favourites the internal workings of any public institution may be infamously mismanaged, even while it is all but impossible to briug the guilt thereof homo to the guilty party or parties. But in reference to the hospital scandal, guilt is clearly established, and yet, in defiance of all laws human and divine, the powers that be set the guilty Hainan up on high, and ignominiously dismiss Mordccai. Really, so gross ou the face of it appears its injustice, that for the sake of all concerned, one would like to believe the official letter to Gadd given in your leader of the 12th to be a fabrication. But siuce it is a fact, not a fabrication, and the Government has uttered its voice iv the matter (such a voice !) Gadd's arbitary di-missal may prove the best thing possible, in the interests of the hospital, for respecting his dismissal men will ask the reason why, with a manliness which refuses to be trilled with. Up to this moment, no greater outrage on tho intelligence and right feeling of the community has been committed in Auckland within the last twenty years. Bad men everywhere detest the vigilantly faithful; let the good nevertheless, but combi-io their forces, and they will soon become what they ought to be but are not, a terror to evil doers. "Auckland expects every mau this day will do his duty."—Yours, &c, E. E. Ellis.
