WASTE LANDS' BOARD.
The ordinary meeting of the Waste Land*' Board was held yesterday afternoon. Present :—Mr D. h. Tole Chief Commissioner, ia the chair ; Dr Campbell, Messrs J. May, W. P. Moat, J. C. firth, and B. Tonks. Te Aroha Lands.--The Chairman said 1 he had no doubt, from informution received, that the Te Aroha Lands would be gazetted " shortly. JN'GAROWAinA.—An application was read from this Board, askiug for a reserve on the Waipa River. On the suggestion of Mr Firth it was resolved to reserve 2,150 acres as a timber reserve from which the timber should not be cut, but which might be used in connection with the water supply.
Hobson County.— The Ilobsou CouDty Council asked fur £500 towards constructing a read between the Northern Wairoa and Hokianga.—The Chairman said that this line of road was being surveyed, on which £1,800 was to be expended. Thames. —The Thames County Council requested that 700 acres of land might be' at once thrown open under the Homestead Act,—Mr Tole said that the Hon. Mr Whitaker had recommended the Board to meet the wishes of the Council as far as possible. It was agreed to open the 700 acres at once, under tho Homestead Act, and write to the lessees of the other lands as to the surrender of their leases of those lands which were denuded of timbsr.
Hokianga.—A letter was also read from Mr John Lundou, saying that the Ilokunga County Council would esteem it a sreatfavour if the Board could see its way to decline all ; ;.. applications for land from tho settlers in , their district, excepting through the | Council.— The Board thought Mr Luudon's request unfuir, aud desired t'.at a reply might bo sent, iuforming Mr JLundon that tho Waste Lauds Board was an open Board, j and accessible to every person of whatever . grade of calling the humblest person ' possessing an equal light with the wealthiest to commuuicate with the Board without consulting any local body.— , | Charles E. Nelson wrote, informing tbe' ; Board that this was an inopportune time for offering for sate the lauds iv the Wai- | parapupu block, owing to tho great depression existing among the settlers, and that he had informed both natives and settlers that the laud, when offered, would be open to all parties.—lc was resolved that the Chairman inform Mr Nelson that the land was under survey, aud possibly on its complctiou the depression may have passed' : away. -".,.-■ Gum Digging.—Mr Charles Bell wrota from Mcremerc asking that 2 SOO acres of comparatively useless land might be leased for digging.—lt was resolved to let on -, & a four years lease by tender. %, Sai.k of Kubal Lands.—The Board granted permission for the sale of rural lands at Clyde, Hawkc's Bay, by Mr Featon, ot Gisborne.
