GRAFTON ROAD SCHOOL.
On Friday, at two o'clock, Mr Chambers, of Carlton Gore Road, a member of the school committee, attended at t the schoolhouse, Nugent-street, for the purpose of presenting prizes given by himself for the best answers ou English History geuerally. The questions were prepared by Mr Chambers, who is well versed in the subject, aud the answers were returned in writing, The adjudication was left to the kind donor, whose awards were as follows : KtandardlV., AnnieMcColl; standard IV., James Paterson ; standard 111,, William Martin; standard 111., Ada O'Brien; standard 11., John Connie; standard 11, Annie Shields. The two last were good conduct prizes, the gift of Miss Kemp, while honourable mention was made of Matilda Martin and Eva Birley, whose papers were considered of equal merit with the prize-winners themselves. The judgment in each case gave general satisfaction, and the presentations by Mr Chambers to the recipients was accompanied with rounds of applause. A cordial vote of thanks was presented to Mr Chambers for his kindness and interest in the school, nnd the holidays announced to commence on Monday aud terminato on January 23rd, ISBO. Congratulations' were next given by the head teacher to the successful competitors, aud expressions of sympathy to those who had failed, with the sage advice "Try again.' To those about to leave Mr Martin bade a pathetic " good-bye," wishing them every success in the battle of life. He hnped that the scholars would have better weather to enjoy their holidays, and when they came back they would be able to say their Christmas had beeu a merry one and their New Year thrice happy. A vote of thanks from tho scholars to the teachers individually and collectively terminated the interesting proceedings.
