RUSSELL, this day. The Kawakawa Co-operative Store Company has been wound up. At the Regatta meeting held last night it was decided to hold a regatta about the middle of February, open to all comeis.

SUPREME COURT.
In the Supreme Court this morning two Maoris, Hapi and Renata Kereama, con. victed yesterday of aggravated assaults at Poverty Bay on a man named Bichardson, wan senteuc-jd to six months. Three other natives charge 1 with those convicted were acquitted. George Henry Stuart for forgery, to 12 months; David Nelson, hoise stealins», to 6 months. The Grand Jury has not decided the case McLellau, charged with wife murder.
PALMERSTON (NORTH), this day. FATAL ACCIDENT.
AI the inquest on Henry Mumford, thrown from his lioisa at Ashhurst Road on Friday, a verdict of " Accidental death" was returned. In falling the deceased's tongue was chopped off, and was picked up on the road afterwards. It is reported the finder exhibited tho piece in a tin box on Saturday morning.

FATAL ACCIDENT.
The storekeeper on board the ship Hurunui, named McGregor, fell off the gangway last night going on board, and died within a few hours.
WELLINGTON, this day. PRIZE BULLS FOR MR FIItTH. Six shorthorn prize bulls from Canterbury Pastoral Show passed through on board the Penguin yesterday en route for Auckland. They are the property of J. C. Firth, Esq. GLEICH'S CASE. Chief Justice Prendergast ha 3 ordered, in accordance with the judgment of the Court of Appeal in Gleich's case, that his etfscts be handed over to the Wellington creditors. CUSTOMS RETURNS. Strict instructions are issued to the collectors of Customs in various ports to require the value of goods to be correctly given in order that annual returns may be more correct than heretofore. It has been ascertained that previously value of goods shipped used to be over-stated. The licensed victuallers' after considering the alterations in the tariff, have resolved to make a charge of sixpence extra oa each bottle of spirits.
IMR MANSFORD'S HEALTH. The health of Mr Mansford, R.M., is improving, though not sufficiently to enable lii:n to transact Court business. THE GOVERNOR'S MOVEMENTS. _ It is understood the Governor abandons his intention to visit Sydney iv consequence of the political atmosphere, butt still expects to,pay his promised visit before the Exhibition closes.
The accountants of Wellington have decided on a form ot letter to be sent to the Chamber of Commerce, asking that the body use its influence with tha Chief Justice to have Mr Berry's name struck off the list of certificated accountants.

ADDIDENT AT THE DOCK.
A man named Eindman was found near the Graving Dock with a fractured skull on Friday. He died to-day.
GOOD TEMPLAR GRAND LODGE.
The sixth annual session of the Grand Lodge of Goud Templas opened to-day in the Templar llall. About seventy representatives and members were present.

THE OPERA,
The production of "Ttovatore" by the Opera Company was one of the greatest successes opened here by any corps. Both the principals acquitted themselves well in their new role«, while Verdi proved the best baritone we have yet heard. The cast was completed by Venosta as " Gipsy " and Templeton as "Fernando."
FOUND DROWNED.
An inquest was held on the body of Henry Madden, an inmate of the Benevolent Asylum, found drowned on the Ocean Beach. He had ben drinking. An open verdict was returned.
A seaman belonging to the Hcrmione was sentenced to sixteen weeks for broaching cargo with a naked light, and another four weeks for disobedience.
The Amalgamated Carpenters' Society remidiatc the the protection petition signed by members under misapprehension. 150 persons were confirmed by the Catholic Bishop yesterday. 600 new chums are in town to-day from the vessels Dunedin and Wanganui.
