DISCOVERY OF COAL ON THE NORTH ROAD.

Mr Abel Fletcher, the contractor forsinking'a well for the- New North Road Brewery, the property of Messrs Becdcl and Co., has got down about 130 feet through layers of various kinds of rock, principally sandstone. At 120 feet ho came across a seam of coal about four inches in thickness. It

appears to bo between brown coal and lignite, but of good quality for burning. A specimen has been taken to tho Museum by Mr Fletcher for general exhibition from the brewery on the New North Road. This discovery will probably be found to be of great importance, on account of the proximity of the place to the city.
