ARRIVAL OF THE MEG MERRILIES.
The regular trading brigantine Meg Merrilies arrived this morning from Levuka after a pasBage'of five weeks with a very large cargo and a number of passengers. Capt. Mackay reports having left Levuka on Friday, the 7th instant, ■with moderate breezo from S.E, 'which was carried to lat. 26° S., when calm set in for three days. On tho 17th encountered a strong Kale from E.N.K. veering to N.W. with heavy cross sea, which at times completely filled tho deck, starting boat and tank lashings, etc. Sighted Capo Brett at noon ot tho 19th and from thence into port. She briDgs a large cargo of nearly 100 tons of sugar, and about 1,000 bags at maize, with thofollowingpassongers:—Mr J. W. Symonds, Mr Wright, Captain Degraves, Mr Corbett, Mr Cane, and Mr Uoldridgc. Inwards Coastwise.—Transit from Russell, with 12S tons coal: Lake St. Clair from Orewa, with 4561 feet timber, 2,700 palings, 116,000 shingles, Ootwabds Coastwise. —Kenihvorth, for Russell. The 8.?. Rowena arrived to-day from Gißborno and Tauranga. Passenger: Mr R Reynolds. The brigantine Island IMj sailed this afternoon for Chatham Islands. Passengers:—Mra Cooper and son. A brigantine, supposed to be tho Clansman from Melbourne, was signalled when wo went to press. The barque Elinor Ye'non is on tho berth at "New York for Dnnedin, Wellington, and Auckland. Tho barque Loongana is advertised to leave for Hobart Town direct on Wecnesday noxt. Captain Maekay reports that H.M. s. Emerald and the Auckland schooner Ovalau wero approaching Levuka when the Meg Merrilies left. The barque Gcorgietta will load np -with gum for New York. She entered out at the Customs to-day for that port. The s.s. Pengnin may ba expected from East Coast and Southern ports at a late hour to-night. She leaves again for RuEsell to-morrow afternoon. The brig John Wesley and the Norwiegan barqHO Tomicu arrived at Levuka prior to the departure of tho Meg Merriliea. The barque Agato, which left New York for Adolaido and Auckland on September 23 brings the following cargo for thia port:—l,7oo cases kerosine oil, 10D l-boxcs and 40 cases tobscoo, 50 J-packages dried app'cs, 5 packages carriages and waggons, IS packages carriaseware, 12 packages"sewing machines, 2 pumps, 4 cases shovels, 20 packages nails, 155 packages hardware, 3 cases handles, 12 neats tnba and pails, 50 ca=es lobsters, 125 cases sarsaparilla. 1 case ■organ, 6 barrels shoe-pegs, 30 eves balsam, 35 coses varnish, 60 cases perfuov ry, 16,000 slates. 401-barrels sugar, 10 barrel* clay, 19 trunks, 90 barrels provisions, 6 packages machinery, 6 casks seeds. Tho s.s. Argylo will arrivo to-night from ■Whangarei and Mangapai. She leaves again to-morrow afternoon. Tho schooner Waiwora sailed to-day for Eurutu, one' of tho Auetral Islands, with a cargo of timber and general merchandise. The barque Amelia Ross, now discharging cargo from New York, is open for freight or charter. • On tho 15th instant tho Meg Merrilies sailed over the assigned position on the Admiralty charts of a, reef eaid to exist in longitude 176deg. 50min. East, and latitude 2fldcor. 19min. South, marked " Ole3ega, 1876." Notwithstanding that tho weather was clear and a good look-out was kept from alofc, nothing was visible. TELEGRAPHIC SHIPPING.
