Czerwonki, which was recently before the Supreme Court, came on again to-day. Mr Travers appeared to show cause why rule nisi should not be made absolute. Mr Olliver appeared in support of the rule. The rule had been grautcd on application for a review of costs in connection with a dispute as to whether the defendant's solicitor was entitled to a refresher fee or not, the case haviug beeu withdrawn at the last moment by plaintiff, and not having come to trial. The case is important as affirming a general principle in legal charges. After hearing arguments his Honor reserved judgment. A small cottage in Oriental Bay was burned down on Saturday night at ten o'clock. LOCAL INDUSTRIES. A strong committee has been formed for promotion of local industries, and a number of members joined the Society. A LATE JOURNALIST AND M.H.R. Captain Manter, of the Alcxa, reports when off the southern coast of Catherine Island, and thiuking he had a clear course before him, saw laud ahead, and going to the masthead and counted six islands all covered with cocoanut trees to the water's edge. They are apparently circular, and about 12 miles in diameter, the water breaking between them, and on the Admiralty chart of 1577 only one island is laid down. CHRISTCHURCH, Saturday. THE UNEMPLOYED. Brown, M.H.R., to the effect that the subsidy and Tuapeka's share of the impounded land fund, about £8,000, will probably be paid early in December. WATERS AGAIN. Waters failed to answer the writ issued on Saturday commanding him to produce in Court his brother's child. A writ of attachment was issued against him. In the Supremo Court, before a special jury, the case Logan v. McKay, claim for £200 for money lent for Kartigi contract, is going on. Drs. Grand and Wallenburg have entered an action for libel for £2,500 agaiust the Mount Ida "Chronicle" for its comment on Schaltzcs death. JOCKEY CLUB MEETING.
