ARftEST OF A SUSPECTED' MURDERER. This afternoon constable NeM arrested a. man in Lyttelton who gave his name as John Cunningham. He is suspected to be identical with Marine Cunningham, who is supposed to have murdered a man named Hugh Annali at Lake Ohau in .November 1875. The man arrested arrived early in: the morning from the Hurunui, and is by calling a sailor.
The newly elected City Council under the ward system will hold their first meetiugonMondayeveniug. Only twomembers (Councillors Ayres and Grapes) of the old Council have been re-elected. RAILWAY HEADQUARTERS. It is currently reported on good authority here that Mr Conyers has received positive instructions to remove at once to Duuedin. ODDFELLOWS' GRAND LODGE. The various1 Lodges of Oddfellows, under the American Constitution, have^appointeda, Reception Committee to meet the "Grand. Master, Bro. It. T. Wheeler, and the Grand Lodge delegate?, on Monday, who come here for a Grand Lodge session. A banquet will be given en Wednesday evening. An address of welcome will be presented on the opening of the Grand Lodge.
