Gentlemen,—At the request of a large number of Electors, I beg to offer myself as aCandidate, in the Liberal interest, for your suffrages in the ensuing Election. I am a staunch supporter of Sir George Grey and the policy enunciated by him. I am in favour of maintaining intact our present system of Free Secular Education, and also of obtaining for this province Additional Endowments and Grants to enable the Grammar and High Schools to be made free also, and place the advantages of Higher Education more readily within the reach of all classes of the people. I am entirely in accord with the sentiments expressed by Mr. Sheehan with respect to Native lands, so that working men will bo enabled to purchase farms suited to their requirements. I am strongly in favour of fostering Local Industries and Productions, and will support any measure which will tend to promote their establishment and prosperity. I have h»d an extensive experience in industrial pursuits in various parts of the Empire, and am convinced that in a new Colony, to secure internal prosperity, it is absolutely necessary that the industries of the inhabitants should be judiciously protected. I am also firmly opposed to allowing the Chinese to obtain a footing in this Colony. If elcctcd,|l shall be always found advocating the sinking of petty differences among the Auckland members, with a view to a united and determined effort under our leader to secure justice for this hitherto negleoted portion of the Colony.
