MR MACFARLANE AT HELENS VILLE.
Mr J. S. Macfarlane met the electors last night in the Court, house, Helensvillo, at 8 o'clock. Mr I. McLeod was appointed chairman. The candidate went over most of the ground dealt with in former speeches. He said that the cry raised by Sir George Grey against capitalists and laud sharks wouldbesufficient to cause him to oppose Sir George Grey. He said it was wrong to encourage a feeling of enmity between capital and labour. He iMr Macfarlane) had done all ho could to induce capital to come into the country. Capital and labour was the real source of wealth in any country. In reply to Mr McLeod, he said that lie had always advocated a moderate scale of protection for local industries, and had opposed the removal of the timber duties. He would support manhood suffrage and triennial parliaments whether brought in by Sir George Grey or anyone else. He would sweep away the Native Oilice. A vote of thanks was accorded at the close of the addrcsx. •
