Dr Hector writes from .Sydney on August 15th, stating that the New Zealand portion of tho exhibits are still incomplete. The space allotted New Zealand is in rather a dark position in comparison with other parts of tho building, but this may be advantageous during the hot summer months. Looking at the number and size of the exhibits in the estimate for New Zealand, according to tlie information given by the Royal Commission,he has applied for an extra space of 200 square feet on the basement, for 500 square feet on the floor, and 300 square feet corresponding to the space in the gallery. The art collection is much larger than was anticipated, and he thinks it probable he may get a concession from Queensland. It has been found impracticable to erect a Maori : house in the building, and a site is to he .selected for it on the grounds. The expeuses attending the erection of an independent building Will be considerable. The exhibits are all insured against fire. He thinks exhibits will not bo properly arranged uuder a month after the official opening, as goods from many countries have not arrived, and only Holland, Victoria,- New South Wales., Queensland, and New Zealand have commenced fitting up their respective

A sample of D'Urvilo Island copper, scut to Newcastle yielded 20 per cent. H.M.S. Emerald leaves for Auckland on Sunday. Samples of auriferous quartz still continue to be brought to the museum from Masterton.
Mayor Hutcliuson threatens a libel action against the " Now Zealand Times " for certain structures upon his character.
