Gazette Appointments.

WELLINGTON, Thursday. A General Government Gazette was issued to-day and contains the following notifications :—Appointments: E, Mcßae and John Brabazan to l)c trustees of the Kerme Cemetery j F, Guiness to administer tho Slaughter House Act 1877; Chas. Gray to be trustee for Makara Cemetery; John R. Charleston, of Raglan, is appointed interpreter, and Daniel Love, Henarc Kahu, and Rokene Te Whareoroa appointed assessors. The following Justices of the Peace are appointed: Peter Austin, Ohinemuri; T. L. Murray, Grahamstown. Lighthouses are now in course of erection at Akaroa Heads and Cape Saunders. It is anticipated that lights will be ready for exhibition early in 1880. The Victorian D rawback Regulations notify that hats (except straw) shall be added to the list of articles specified in schedule 1 to tho Drawback Regulations of 4th December, 1878, wliich came into force on the Ist January, 1879, and that the rate at which drawback of duty paid on importation of such hats may be paid on exportation thereof shall be 13Jth per cent. The vital statistics for July show for Boroughs births and deaths : Auckland, 34—11; Wellington, 87—22; Christchurch, 59-25; Dunedin, 99-39; Thames, 29-7; Napier, 28—2; Wanganui, 22—16; Nelson, 21-16; Sydenham, 38-16; Lyttelton, IS—5; Timaru, 22—9; Oamaru, 29-8 ; Hokitika, 10—2; Caversham, 15—1; Invcrcargill^ 22—2. Totals, 527—181. Male deaths under one year, 40; over one and under five, 6; over five years, 68. Female deaths, under one year, 26; under five, 16; over five, 25. The largest per centage of deaths were due to local diseases, whooping cough and bronchitis. These claim the largest per centage of deaths, and in these Dunedin ranks highest and Auckland lowest.
