A highly interesting and instructive lecture on the history and properties of coal was delivered at the Wesleyau School Room last night, by Mr Gittos, assisted by the Key Mr Parker. As the listeners were principally composed of children from the neighbouring schools, it was a pity that the worthy lecturer did not choose a subject more adapted to interest his auditors. Songs and recitations enlivened the proceeding. Some of the children showed an astonishing power of retentive memory by reciting long pieces without the slightest hesitation or even pausing for a moment in their trying ordeal, while others sanir some very pretty songs, the ell'ect of which was marred by the inefficiency of the accompanist, as is often the case on these occasions. A hymn sung in unison brought tho entertainment to a close.
