POLICE COURT.
This Day. (Before E. C. Barstow Esq., R,M.) DRUNKENNESS. Two persons were fined 5s each, MEGLECTED CHILDREN. Elizabeth and Win. Burtenshaw were charged with being neglected children and were committed to the Industrial Home for five years. STEALING A DOO. James Somers, ou remand, was charged with stealing a valuable dog, worth £4, the property of John McTaggard, of Gisborne, on the 4th April. Prisoner pleaded not guilty. Henry Bush, seaman, and Captain Bennett, gave evidence as to seeing prisoner bring the dog ou board. The case was then adjourned until the 25th inst., for the appearance of the owner of the dog. THE PANMURE ASSAULT CASE. Peter Murphy was again brought up on a charge of attempting to commit a rape on Jessie McCarthy, of Panmure, on the 12th of July. Mr Hesketh appeared for the defence. R The evidence of Sophia Alexander, John McCarthy, and Constable Dews was taken, and Mr Hesketh having addressed the Court, the prisoner was committed for trial, but was admitted to bail, himself in £100, and two sureties in £50 each.
