WELLINGTON, this day. On the charge of perjury against Mr Kinross, of Napier, coming on to-day, Sir William Fitzherbert's reply to Mr Rees' letter was read. Mr Rees had asked jthat officers of. the Legislative .Council oUouM be permitted b,y the, Speaker tjq give evidence anrt ■produce documents in'CbSir;t. V The Speaker declined to grant the authority askdd; and quoted May in" support of his action. The case was then dismissed. Mr Rees'said this confirmed him in the opinion' that the House haa no powerto|p_rotect witiieases frpm a charge of" perjury. All documents connected with the case are to ■be placed in possession of the R.M., and Mr Rees will present a petition1 to the both Houses of Parliament, asking that the documents might be handed into Parliament at the bar of the HouSe. Ab to the point that the appendices, .are part of the journals of the House, the Court having ruled they were not, Mr Rees said the Speaker of;the Legislativo Council, Mr O'Korkc, the Attorney-General and Soli-citor-General, were all of .opinion /that; the appeudiccs are part of the journals. , v !il
