THE BIG PUMP.
A MEETING of the County and Borough representatives of the Thames, aud members of the Thames Mining Association, was held to-day at the office of Mr Tothill, Mr C. J. Stone iv the chair, to consider the bent means of carrying on pumping operations at the Thames. After considerable discussion the followiu' Committee was appointed on the motion of Mr F. Whitaker to devise a plan ou the basis of a resolutiou proposed by Mr Kowe : The Chairman of the Thames County Council, Chairman Borough Council, Messrs Kowe, McCabc, Lennox, Firth, aud the Mayor of Auckland. Mr Howe's resolution 'was to tLe effect that it was desirable to sink the pumping shaft so as to intersect the deep slide, and to extend the south drive, and that the Government be requested to lend £5,000, the County and Borough contributing a portion of their gold revenue, and the Miuiug Companies a sufficient sum to make the total amount to £10,00 for the first year, and that in any general drainage scheme the requirements of Waiokaraka District should be provided for.
