GRAFTON ROAD SCHOOL.
Thk school met this morning in the niw building, after the holidays. There appeared to be a misunderstanding on the part of the members of the Committee as to tbe time of meeting, which was understood to be at the Committee, assembled the children in one school, at 10.30 a.m. After waiting till tho above hour, our worthy Mayor, Mr Peacock, and Cha rooan of the of the ia'ga room--, and addressed them in very eloquent terms on the pleasure he felt in meeting with so many in their altered circumstances. He went on to contrast the character of the tv. o buildings—the old with the new— and trusted that they would enter on their studies With increased enargy aud vigour. He hoped that rot a few would be fitted not merely for the ordinary business of life, but to take high places in the State aifaira of New Zealand. Ho said that parems, teachers, and children were under a debt of gratituue to the Board of Education for tho haunsome manner in which they had provided for the educational wants of the district. He culled upon the children to give three heorty cheer 3 for the Board of Education, after which the school wa3 dismissed for the day, each pupil receiving a present of lollies as he" retiied. After they had gone, Mr Chambers another inembar of the Commit tee, arrived, who expressed himself delighted with the building and the whole o? the scholastic ft. range ments.—[Communicated],
