Effects of a Sunstroke.
A distressing case of sudden death- ' ; occurred on boardjthe Union Company's s.s.. Taupo at an early hour this morning, thevictim being a young mau named Robert . •• Grant, wfco has, for some time past, hel4vi§ the position of purser on the vessel. Hewas out driving with Mr Garrard, the chief | officer, yesterday, and complained of illness about 7.30 p.m. Dr Dawson was sent for,, aud attended him ; but he gradually grew eH worse, and died shortly after three o'clock this morning. Dr Hooper was present at"' v the end. It is believed that death was the result of a sunstroke, caused by exposure yesterday. The symptoms were similar to . those observed in cases of coup de soldi, These facts were communicated to the Coroner, but he did not deem it necessary- •' to order an inquest into the cause of death.."' The funeral took place this afternoon, when the flags of all the vessels in harbour, and of many of the business places in town, . were flying tt half-mast, out ot respect tothe deceased. - ■- ■■■ ■ - ■'■'-'; 88
