BRITISH ADVANCE ON KANDAHAR.

VIGOROUS DEFENCE PREPARED.

BOMBAY, January 1. General Stuart will advance "to Kandahar to-day, through Gwaja. Khojuk Pass is stated to be weakly garrisoned. LONDON, January 1. The fleet returns to Ismid, provisions being unobtainable at Arataki. The revenue returns for the December quarter show a large increase. The Governor of Kandahar is preparing for a vigorous defence against General Stuart's column. The Glasgow Bank call realised £800,000. The secretary has been released, and will become a Crown witness. Turkish Commissioners have been appointed to carry out the surrender of Podgoritza, Montenegro. The Glasgow Bank will pay five shillings in February. The Khan of Khelat is desirous of cooperating with the British in the advance on Kandahar. Official correspondence in reference to reforms in Asia Minor is published.
