(From Our Own Correspondent.)
GRAHAMSTOWN, this day THE BIG PUMP.
There appears to be every probability of ihe Bi" Pump following the example of the Waio-Karaka Pump, and stopping work at the end of the week, owing to insufficiency of funds. If this stoppage happens none of the mines on the flat will be able to work, owing to the influx of water which will ensue. Mr Strange, of Waitoa, Upper 1 names, has sold a farm of 2,000 acres for £10,000 to a Southern capitalist. The survey of reserves in the WaiKawau Block of 41,000 acres, prior to being handed over to the Waste Lands Board, has commenced. The laud is first-class for agricultural purposes. All the mines and batteries which stopped for the Christmas holidays resumed work this morning.
