ARRIVAL OF THE GADLYS, FROM LONDON.
The long expected bsirque Gadlys arrived at nine o'clock this morning from London, after a lenethy passage of 118 days from the Docks, and elefen days from land to land. Capt. John Tovlor reports leaving the Docks on August; 31 st aid passing Deal on the l&t, andSeilly on the 6th September. Light variable wmds andflne "eathwtm passing Madeira on September 17th. Ptekedupthe north-east trades, which proved light off Madeira, and carried them to 12deg. 181 or" north. Strong south south-west winds and heavy rain to the Equator which was crossed on October 9th, in longitude 23 £2 west. Very strong south-east trades were experienced from the Equator, to 2ideg. south and SJdeg. west Thence to the meridian of the Cape ot Good Hope, which was passed on November •Itn light northerly winds and fine weather. On the sth and 6th encountered a hurricane from the northwest, round by south to »orth-west aeain It blew the lower topf ails out of the bolt top's' and did other damage about the deck. Thence to the meridian oE Cape Leuwm winch 4ps ppssed on the 30th November, had a of gales of wind from north-east vicinity of theKlngs three days before they were s?ehted Down the Coast, heavy ram and a itfon* north-west gale, with a sudden shift to the? West; at 1.30 a.m. yesterday. The Poor 'Kn^hta were sighted at 7 a.m. yesterday., and TirUri pissed at i o'clock this morning, arriving in hSbour as above. Shortly after leaving T?ntrland Henry Bowles, the cook, a native of Greenwich aged 43. took ill. He died on the 6Bi IS?Sr, and the captain considers that flpftth was the result of a worn-out constitution. The Gldfys is an iron barque of 499 tons roister and comes consigned^the New.Zealand Shipping Company. She does not bnn? Iny passengers, but. has on board a general cargo, valued at £17,000.
