The Evening Star: WITH WHICH ARE INCORPORATED "The Evening News," "The Morning News," and "The Echo."

TUESDAY, AUGUST 20, 1878.

Forthe cause that lacks assistance, Far the wrong that needs resistance, For the future In the distance, Aad the eood that w» can do

The turn of the tide, as we predicted, has at length set in against the Bosnian insurgents. It is reported by cable this af teraoon that the Austrians have gained a decided victory at Delaboras. The end, however, is not yet. Strengthened by accessions from ths ranks of Turkish regulars, and assisted by supplies from Servia and Montenegro, the insurgents are capable of making a determined and protracted resistance, i The land owners of Bosnia are mostly Moslem converts, warlike and untractable. In this revolt, they have the support of the Christian population, who rebel against the Austrian yoke, encouraged by the neighbouring independent Principalities of Servia and Montenegro, and possibly also by Russian influence. There is a chance that if Austria can gain one or two decided successes, diplomacy may do the rest, but failing that, the results hoped for from the Berlin Conference are far from being achieved. The other conditions of the Treaty are being fulfilled by the evacuation of South Turkey. The Russian troops are embarking from St. Stefano, and the British fleet soon withdraws from the Sea of Marmora. Batoum is to be evacuated in a fortnight.
