THE KAKAPO.
(To the Editor of the Star),
Sib.— Yesterday I went to the Gardens of tho Acclimatization Society to sec the kakapo, recently presented by Sir G. Grey. I succeeded in seeing the back and tail of the bird, which was in oue of the cages having a N.W. frontage, end that not even one of the most sheltered, and in a corner of the cage behind a piece of board about eighteen inches wide, that looked like a small shutter, it was seeking shelter from the blazing afternoon sun. Considering the habit of " the night parrot," I fear that it must find its present accommodation as little conducive to its health as it certainly is unsatisfactory to those -who go to see it. I would therefore recommend those who wish to see even as little as I have of this rare and valuable bird, to lose no time in doing so. Sincerely hoping that the society may take a friendly hint, and learn to appreciate the acquisition that has, after a lapse of some years, again made a visit to these gardens worth the sixpence entrance money.—l am, &c, Andrew Fairservice.
